RESEARCH
The focus of my research during the Bachelor was the study of Spanish in contact with other languages from a linguistic and sociocultural perspective. In particular, my BA thesis, An Analysis of English Borrowings into Spanish, was based on the study of online Spanish corpora (CREA, CORDE and Davies), three fundamental tools for my quantitative project, since they made it possible to analyze a significant amount of natural language data. Within this corpus-based methodology, my project analyzed English borrowings into Peninsular Spanish, and allowed me to explore, from both a diachronic and a synchronic perspective, the cultural and historical circumstances that might have favored the integration of foreign words into the Spanish lexicon.
For my graduate school plans my area of interest are Second Language Acquisition, psycholinguistic, bilingualism, contact linguistics. Currently, I am investigating about the processing of grammatical gender in Italian and how it is affected by speaker mental representation.
